The Perfect Spot for Summer Brunchin’

Last month, when a mini heatwave hit Britain and everyone was instantly in a better mood and made a bee-line for beer gardens and open spaces, I got invited to ‘Megan’s’ in Fulham for a lovely brunch in the sunshine! (Who else is SO over the miserable weather and ready for Summer now?!) With an outdoor terrace, beautiful white roses, intertwined with fairy lights and rustic decor Megan’s really is the place to go for a pretty brunch this Summer…

Whilst I am not a vegetarian, the boyf and I opted for the ‘Veggie breakfast’, after hearing rave reviews about the shakshouka ( a kind of tomato, chilli and onion sauce originating from Tunisia in case you’re wondering ) and it did not dissapoint! After what felt like an age of trying to decide whether to go for scrambled or poached eggs (first world problems right?!), I went for poached and I kid you not, they were perfect and had the most vibrant orange yolks I have seen in my 25 years of existence! Proof below…

The veggie breakfast consisted of eggs, halloumi, spinach, creamy avocado, shashouka, mushrooms and plenty of toast and the menu has a fantastic selection of Mediterannean inspired cuisine, from open lamb kebabs to baked eggs and chilli prawns. As it was an uncharacteristically hot day,  I went with a coconut ice latte to wash it all down- with chocolate sauce on top- of course!  They also do a HALF BAKED COOKIE DOUGH with NUTELLA and Ice Cream…. seriously, have you heard of anything better that that?!

Shakshouka dipping…

The venue is dog-friendly and so is great to take your pooch along or just obsess over everybody elses like I do! It would also be the perfect setting for a girly birthday brunch with friends , a romantic lunch with your other half or a lovely place to take your Mum for Mothers Day.

Who doesn’t love a good brunch? Espescially in the warmer months. Let me know if you pop along to Megans- I’d love to know what you think?!

My Four Favourite SS18 Trends

With January over, which seemed like the longest month ever by the way, 2018 is well and truly underway and with the new year comes the new fashion season. Below are my four favourite trends of Spring/Summer 2018 and some pieces I am loving right now!

Polka Dots

Wear it with.. black high-waisted Mom jeans, red barely there heels and a matching red bag- perfect for spring time evening drinks

LDNgirl says… Polka dots don’t have to be monochrome! Pastels are a softer way to wear and look great with white bottoms. Or double up and team with the matching skirt..

Styling Tip– Layer a black lace bralet underneath!

Wear it with…Converse, a white tee and an oversized black blazer to give this skort a more casual vibe

Head-to-toe ice-cream pastels for the win!

Styling tip– Wear pastel pink from head to toe to copy the catwalk trend

Wear it with… a pretty floral dress with lilac accents in the print

Styling tip- Create a grungy-girly vibe by teaming with a black leather jacket and biker boots

LDNgirl says… A wrap style dress looks gorgeous on an hourglass figure and helps to create curves on those who have a straighter shape by pulling in at the waist

Wear it with… A matching knitted jumper like the previous from & Other Stories and nude heels to embrace the head to toe trend

Wear it with… Black leather trousers and barely there sandals

Ldngirl says… I tried this skirt in store and the material is lovely and really flattering! Its a bargain too at £17.99

Wear it with… A white shirt and red court heels for stylish, spring work-wear

Ldngirl says…I LOVE a wide leg trouser, they’re a great alternative to dresses for nights out and special occasions. High waisted cuts teamed with heels can make legs appear Naomi Campbell long!

The colour was super popular last Spring and it looks like its here to stay for SS18!

suiZARA Blazer, Trousers

Ldngirl says… I ADORE THIS SET! (It’s on the wish list)

Styling tip- Layer over a leopard print dress for bold colour and print clash heaven!

Ldngirl says... Layering is perfect for Spring and knit wear makes it easy. Throw this jumper over a shirt or a silk cami

I hope you have enjoyed my breakdown of my favourite trends for SS18! What trends are you loving?

The Most Instagramable Café in London

Enter, ÉLAN.

Élan recently launched a second café in affluent Knightsbridge (239 Brompton Road to be exact, the same road that the luxurious Harrods is on!) to accompany its original one in Mayfair.  It’s only been open for less than two months but when I arrived for brunch with my lovely friend Aimee at 11:30am on Saturday morning, there was a queue heading down the street! And you can see why..

Annoyingly, Élan doesn’t take bookings. However, for tables of two, the wait isn’t so long and we probably only waited outside for around 15 minutes before being seated.

Élan is a French word and means enthusiastic vigor, style and flair, which is written in gold lettering at the back of the café, right below, what I can only describe as a huge rose crown! The décor of Élan is gorgeous, a mixture of elaborate floral, millennial pinks and deep sage green with marble, gold and rose gold detailing. Team a beautiful colour scheme with coffee lover quotes, a giant cherry blossom tree and a rose wall and you’ve got yourself an Instagramers DREAM café!

Some skeptics may think style over substance but it’s not just the décor that makes this café a winner. The food is delicious and there is an amazing variety of food and drinks to try, all just as Instagramable as the surroundings.

The menu is a mixture of typical, trendy ,healthy dishes like smashed avo on toast & acai bowls and Middle Eastern cuisine. Aimee and I spent ages looking over the menu, worried about food envy and missing out on something amazing but ended up ordering the exact same thing (I guess that’s one way to avoid food envy!) We chose the Grilled Ras el Hanout Chicken Flatbread with a poached egg, grilled peppers, lemon yoghurt  & chilli oil with a side of courgette and halloumi fries to share and chai lattes to wash it all down.

The food, ohhh THE FOOD, was amazing! You can tell that they use good quality produce and the arrangement on the plate is just as pretty as the café itself! I highly recommend the Grilled Chicken Flatbread and the halloumi fries were definitely some of the best I have ever eaten (and I have eaten A LOT of halloumi!). Originally I wanted to try the ruby latte after seeing countless pictures on Instagram of the pink hot drink, however when I realised it was part of their ‘alternative’ latte section and was made of beetroot and ginger, I decided against it. Although, going by how good our chai lattes were, I am sure it would have been just as nice! The chai lattes were so good that we actually ordered a second round to drink with our cakes… moving me nicely onto the sweet stuff!

Élan have a glorious selection of cakes, tarts and pastries which include colour-glazed croissants and huge cheesecakes! It was hard to make a choice but I’m a toffee/caramel kinda girl so originally went for the Dulce de Leche cake, which wasn’t on display. However, when it arrived I was a bit disappointed as I didn’t realise it was more of a milk cake with lots of whipped cream (so heads up incase you order!) , rather than a sticky toffee style cake that I had in mind. So I asked if I could swap it and ending up going for the Date & Walnut cake to fulfill my sticky, sugar fix. Aimee went with a carrot cake and both were delicious but neither of us could finish them (probably didn’t help that we were washing them down with rich, spiced milk but hey!)

Overall, we had a lovely time and its the perfect spot for a girly catch up. Price wise, it is of course slightly more expensive than your average café but the décor and the quality of the food/drink makes it worth it and I will definitely be going back! (I might even try the Ruby Latte, next time!)

Why quitting my job was the best thing I did in 2017 & Quarter life crisis’ really are a thing!

Quitting my job in October last year was honestly the best thing I did last year (aside from Elrow in Ibiza- that was pretty sick). I didn’t have anything else lined up as such, I’d been to a couple interviews and turned them down in the end because something just didn’t feel right and I didn’t want to settle again, so I was officially UN-EMPLOYED! I wanted to share this with you because I know there are others in their twenties who will be able to relate to this. I also want to encourage those who are in a similar situation or feel the same way as I did,  to take action, not feel bad and to know that everything really does happen for a reason and it will work out in the end! Life really is too short to be spending 80% of your time in a job that isn’t fulfilling you in some way and making you unhappy. You’re also more likely to be successful, if you are doing something that you are passionate about.

It’s ingrained in us that you should never leave a job until you’ve found something else and of course that is the sensible thing to do. But when you get to a point where you’re feeling so stressed that you can’t even make a simple decision like what boots to buy for Winter (tragic I know! *eye roll*) and so low that not even a trip to Zara can make you feel better (you guys know how much I love Zara) , you know you’ve got to do something about it and trying to find a job when you’re feeling like that isn’t always the most productive.

Now of course not everyone is in a situation where they can do that however, if you’re are and still live at home with some savings behind you and want to, then do it! It’s better to do so now than when you’ve got rent/mortgage to pay for, right?! However, only do so if you are prepared to use your time wisely and not have Netflix marathons with a quick dabble on LinkedIn now and again. Luckily I still live at home and have savings and so as soon as I quit, I wanted to use the time I had to focus on my personal development, do some charitable work and most importantly, find the job that was right for me and encompassed my passions- I didn’t want to settle.

Un-employed life is a mix of good and bad, the good being; I had much more time to look for work, was able organise my life at home and do things that I didn’t have time to do but always wanted to do. I started volunteering at a charity, close to my heart, designing social media/ promotional images for them which was fun and really helped me to develop my skills. I went to fashion workshops and exhibitions, I read up on the law of attraction and I started meditating. The bad was after a couple weeks of not working, I started panicking that I wasn’t going to find the job I was looking for and started feeling like a failure. Luckily, I have some amazing people in my life who were there for me by giving me pep talks and I really am grateful for those individuals! But it was also around this time that I saw Dina and this influenced change.

Being in your early to mid twenties is a weird one, you feel like you should have all your shit together but you often don’t and in fact, won’t and when I saw quarter life crisis coach Dina Grishin she cemented this into my brain! (yes I said quarter life crisis and yes it is a thing!) She encouraged me that your twenties is a time for experiences, a time to learn and a time to try things until you figure out/find what you want. She informed me that so many young people around my age, put so much pressure on themselves to be at a certain point in their life and compare themselves to others on social media who seem to be ‘living their best life’ and that this was leading to feelings of failure, depression and overwhelm. Dina gave me some amazing advice but there was one thing that really stuck with me. She told me that in order to be the person I wanted to be, someone who made braver choices and came out of my comfort zone, I had to think about what a person like that would do in a scenario and then just go and do it!! So I did.

I’d seen a company that I really wanted to work for but at the time there weren’t any vacancies. I also knew that I didn’t have the most experience for the role I wanted so I was filled with self-doubt. However, deep down, what I did know was that I had a passion for it, I knew I could do it but I just needed the chance and to get over my own fear of not being good enough! In my head, I heard my Mum saying ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get!’, so even though there wasn’t a vacancy I sent an email. I emailed explaining that I really wanted to work for them and why and what I would bring to the team. I made sure I included the small amount of fashion experience I had, attached my CV and waited. At first I thought, I probably wouldn’t hear anything back and so I pushed it to the back of my mind, having no expectations. But I did hear back and I was over the moon that they wanted to interview me and give me a chance. It’s weird because at the interview they told me that the same day I had emailed them, they had posted a vacancy not long afterwards ( this has cemented my belief that everything happens for a reason so trust the timing of your life!)

So after interviewing, it only made me want the job more but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. I felt I had done my best and if I didn’t get the job, could use it as great interview experience (I had to give a small presentation- something that has always scared me!). I’d read about the power of visualisation, so I started picturing in my head that I had got the job and was working there. I’d read about being mindful of how you think and how it can become a reality so I started saying to myself ‘I can do this, I’ve got this!’ and whilst there were no guarantees and I didn’t want to get my hopes up, I did feel more confident about the outcome.

Fast forward to yesterday and I got the phone call, I had been offered the job of my dreams and I’m so bloody happy! Part of me did have a slight wobble as I got into bed last night thinking ‘OMG I’ve got the job. I hope I’m good enough’ but then I remembered everything I had learnt and said to myself ‘YOU GOT THIS!’

So roll on 2018, I have a really good feeling about this year! And for anyone feeling the way I did about a job they are in or feeling overwhelmed by being in their mid twenties and not having their shit together, don’t panic because everything happens for a reason and it’ll all work out in the end 🙌🏽💕

Why Laser Hair Removal is The Way Forward

After years of putting up with painful waxing, I started Laser Hair Removal whilst I was living in Australia as it is super popular out there. Since returning to the UK, I have been going to Unique Laser Clinic in Greenford, London for my sessions and decided to team up with my Laser Specialist, Jade,  to share how it all works and the pro’s of laser hair removal- because let’s face it, who doesn’t want to be hair free?!

Commonly, the first question that pops into mind when talking about laser hair removal is: “Is it painful?”

Laser Specialist Jade says– Laser hair removal session are reasonably comfortable. With our Soprano Ice Laser you can expect to feel a prickly sensation and warmth but it is a virtually painless laser. We also use the Gentle Yag laser and this can sometimes feel like a sharp sensation on the skin for a second but doesn’t last long.

I currently use the Soprano Ice Laser on my bikini area and it is definitely less painful than the Yag and a more comfortable experience. It kind of reminds me of what an ultrasound would be like, as Jade first applies a gel and then runs the laser head over the area to be treated.

How does laser hair removal work?
Jade – The most simple way to explain how laser works is, when the laser energy leaves the end of the device, it is attracted to your hair follicle and the laser energy is transfered to heat which then damages the blood supply to the follicle causing the hair to simply shed within 14 days after any given session and over time reduce hair growth

How many sessions will I need?
JadeYou initially need 6 – 8 sessions to achieve a 60-80% hair reduction. If you are treating the face you will require a sess5 ion once every 4-6 weeks and for the body once every 6-8 weeks. Once you have completed your first initial 6-8 sessions you will require maintenance sessions, which can vary from individual clients but are usually anything between 1 session every 2/3 months to once a year.

Does it work on everyone?
Jade- Although laser hair removal is very effective, it is not always suitable for everyone. For example, laser does not work on white, grey, blonde, or red hairs as there is no pigment in the follicle for the laser to be attracted to. At Unqiue Laser Clinic, we can treat all skin types safely.

Pro’s of laser hair removal:

  • Permanent hair reduction
  • Long term cost effective -Whilst laser can be expensive initially, think about how the cost adds up for regular wax appointments over the years!
  • No more ingrown hairs
  • No need to go through the pain of waxing/plucking or threading!
  • Able to laser any body area

There are only really a couple of cons and that is that is can be a long process and uncomfortable but I truly think it is worth it in the long term!

Colour of the season: RED

Did you know, red is the most flattering colour on all skintones?

With the Autumn/Winter collections trickling into stores , you may have noticed one colour making a common appearence- red! From pillarbox red to jewel tone ruby red, this hue is taking over, and is a great colour to introduce into the wardrobe (yes, even for those of you who love wearing black!)

If you’re feeling daring, rocking a red blazer  is one way to make a statement. Or, if you’re not confident with colour, try adding a red clutch and matching earrings to brighten up your little black dress!

Check out my fav pieces from the highstreet in this seasons hue:

Are you going to invest in some red this season?
